The economic and planning study project is a potential public/ private venture designed to create a vibrant new center for education and craft of brewing and distilling with multiple stakeholders. The site is rich in cultural and industrial history and showcases the natural beauty of the Deschutes River and the adjacent falls. Proposed trail connections incorporate the future Olympia Woodland trail and link this project to the state capitol, the lower falls and trail system along the river as well as a bridge over the river to Tumwater Historical Park. JKLA explored internal vehicular and pedestrian circulation connecting the historic Schmidt House and upper portions of the site with the possible retail/ commercial/ housing at the lower site. Grading and storm water concepts, rain gardens, drop-off areas and parking including a new potential parking structure for the facility were also developed. Waterfront non-motorized boating access, docks, boardwalks, plaza areas, and overlooks all integrated with the design. JKLA provided planning and site design for this iconic project.
