Senator Henry M. Jackson Park Master Plan
Senator Henry M. Jackson Park is a 15-acre community park rich in history located in a culturally diverse neighborhood in Everett. The park plan envisions providing the neighborhood as well as the greater Everett community with new recreational amenities and updated facilities. The park master plan thoughtfully orchestrates program elements including lighted synthetic baseball/ softball and soccer fields designed for collegiate play, a synthetic field for unscheduled play, a children’s play area, basketball court, and two restroom buildings, with viewpoints and terraces, picnic shelters, community gardens, interpretive/ demonstration gardens, and unstructured open space. Trails and connections to the community and a future trail system outlined in the Shoreline Access Plan and Bicycle Plan are also important components featured in the plan.

The plan addresses city concerns about vehicular circulation and parking as well as short term and long term maintenance needs and storage facilities. The park design includes a phasing plan, identifies and incorporates land acquisition and addresses property encroachment issues. The park design process incorporates extensive public outreach with Park Staff, Advisory Committee, and Park Board. The Advisory Committee includes staff from Parks, Public Works, and Planning as well as stakeholder members from the Everett Community College, and Everett’s Delta and Riverside Neighborhood Groups.
Lifecycle costs for 10 park systems as well as site sustainability and green design were explored as part of the planning process. These lifecycle costs and sustainable design principles as well as the guiding principles of CPTED (Crime Prevention through Environmental Design) are incorporated into the park design.
Originally called Riverdale Park when acquired in 1917, this park has seen several uses over the last 100 years including garden plots, camping, and in 1940, a baseball diamond. The park was renamed and dedicated to Senator Henry M. Jackson in 1992 and is a community park as seen today.
